Create Courses, Sections and Classes

Creating classes involves setting up Grading Types, adding Local Courses, creating Sections, and assigning Teachers and Students. An overview of the steps is listed below, with further details listed in separate sections.

Set Up Grade Types for Local Courses #

This guide outlines the step-by-step process to setting up Grading Types for Local Courses. These steps will ensure that your gradebooks are effectively weighted based on assignment types and that your courses are structured accurately.

Step 1: Access Local Courses #

  1. Log in to your HomeroomHUB with a Local Administrator account.
  2. Locate and click on the “Local Courses” option in the sidebar.

Step 2: Set Up Grading Types #

  1. To effectively weight gradebooks based on assignment types, you need to set up Grading Types.
  2. Click on the “Set Grading Types” option within the Local Courses section.

Step 3: Create a Grading Type for Each Local Course #

  1. Begin by creating a Grading Type for each specific Local Course. This is important for accurate gradebook weighting.
  2. Click on the “Create New” button to start the process.

Step 4: Configure Grading Type Details #

  1. Choose the Texas Course Code: Select the appropriate Texas Course Code from the most recent C022 Table that corresponds to the Local Course.
  2. Add Local Course ID: Enter a unique course code for your organization.
  3. Specify Subject: Correspond the subject with the relevant chapters of the Texas Education Code.

Step 5: Define Grading Type and Subtypes #

  1. Next to the “Grading Type,” click on the “See Details” link.
  2. Click on “Create New” to add a new Grade Type.
  3. Provide the following details for each Subtype:
  4. Name of the Type (e.g., Elementary Grading, Secondary Grading, Secondary AP)
  5. Name of the Subtype (e.g., Homework, Quiz, Tests)
  6. Corresponding Percent Weight for the named Subtype (e.g., 20%, 30%)
    1. Total Percent Weight will need to add up to 100% or the addition will not be accepted.

Step 6: Complete Subtype Creation #

  1. Once you’ve added all the Subtypes and their corresponding weights, click on the “Create” button to confirm.
  2. After creating all the Subtypes, you’ll be directed back to the Grade Type details.

Step 7: Save Grading Type #

  1. From the list of Grade Types, select the newly created Grade Type or any previously created Grade Type.
  2. Click on the “Save” button to preserve the Grading Type settings.

Step 8: Create Sections and Classes #

  1. Navigate back to the “Local Courses” section in the sidebar.
  2. Select the “Create New” button to initiate the process of creating sections and classes.

Step 9: Configure Section and Class Details #

  1. Fill in necessary information such as the section name, course name, and any other required details.
  2. Choose the appropriate Grading Type you created earlier from the dropdown menu.

Step 10: Save and Confirm #

  1. Review the details you’ve entered for accuracy.
  2. If everything is correct, click on the “Save” or “Confirm” button to finalize the creation of the section and class.

By following these steps, you can efficiently set up Grading Types and create Local Courses, sections, and classes in HomeroomHUB. This process ensures that your gradebooks are accurately weighted, and your courses are structured according to your organization’s requirements.
